NRRA announces keynote speaker for 36th Annual Northeast Recycling Conference & Expo

The Northeast Resource Recovery Association (NRRA), Epsom, New Hampshire, has announced that the keynote speaker for its 36th Annual Conference and Exposition will be John Casella, CEO and chairman of Casella Waste Management of Vermont.

Casella is considered a leading authority in the solid waste industry in New England and a visionary with over 40 years of experience in the challenging world of resource recovery and sustainable materials management, the NRRA says.

The conference is scheduled for May 22-23, 2017, at the Manchester Radisson Hotel and Conference Center in Manchester, New Hampshire. This year’s theme is “Back to the Future for Recycling … It’s Time.”

 “We were looking for a good fit for our conference theme; John was, without question, the ideal speaker,” says Mike Durfor, NRRA executive director. “His history, his unparalleled knowledge of the current state of the industry and his constant forward-looking vision make him uniquely qualified to address the resource recovery professionals at our conference.”

Casella’s address will kick off two days of workshops, presentations and awards that will address day-to-day operations, contract management, market realities and long-term planning.

Casella has been a member of numerous industry-related and community-service-related state and local boards and commissions, including the National Recycling Coalition, Associated Industries of Vermont, The Association of Vermont Recyclers, the Vermont State Chamber of Commerce, the Rutland Industrial Development Corporation and Rutland Regional Medical Center. He also has served on various state task forces and in an advisory capacity to the governors of Vermont and New Hampshire on solid waste issues.

Conference attendees can get credit for their New Hampshire Solid Waste Operator Training requirements through the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services. Some of the issues we will be addressing in our workshops include producer responsibility initiatives, organics and composting and new technologies for municipal solid waste and recyclables.
