Jede Dose Zaehlt, or Every Can Counts, launched in 2010 in Austria to answer the question, “Why recycle drink cans?” The answer to that question includes the major energy and carbon dioxide savings (both around 95%), as well as extending the life cycle of existing resources, the organisation says.
Dorothea Junk of Relations Communications Panta Rhei founded and implemented the Austrian initiative for drink can recycling in 2010 until the end of 2016. From 2017 onward, Jede Dose zaehlt will be continued as an association with the same name, founded by the main sponsors.
“I would like to thank our many supporters, as well as sponsors, Ball Packaging and EA Association, the Austrian drinks industry, including brands such as Red Bull and Pepsi Austria, trading companies like Rewe Austria, the University of Vienna, Departments 48, 44 and 45 of the city of Vienna and many others for their major support and help for building this awareness,” Junk says. “Without this broad spectrum of support, the initiative would not have been so successful. Not least, it was our CanRider and CanBiker team who communicated our message about recycling with conviction and a sense of fun.”
