Teijin Ltd., an Japanese-based producer of synthetic fibers, announced plans to open new plants at its factory in Tokuyama, Yamaguchi Prefecture, to produce materials for new PET bottles from used PET bottles, the first such operation in the world, according to the company.
The new plants will enable the company to recycle PET bottles by using technologies developed by the company to produce high-quality terephthalic acid.
The company said it is applying for 15 patents for the new technologies.
