Dowa Mining announced that it has started to build on its Okayama site a facility that will recycle shredder dust from automotive bodies.
The facility is expected to be complete by the end of this year. It will be able to crush 15 tons of material per hour and incinerate 4 tons per hour. The cost of the facility is between $27-$34 million.
The company expects the facility to generate around $11 million in revenue through the crushing and incineration, while saving around $3 million a year in energy consumption.
The move is timed with the 2002 automobile recycling law, which requires that more than 70 percent of automotive shredder dust be recycled by 2015.
