The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI) is preparing for its annual Commodities Roundtable sessions, scheduled this week, Sept. 10-12, in Rosemont, Ill.
The Hyatt Regency O’Hare serves as the host facility, while ISRI has chosen “In Search of Recovery” for the theme of the event. As it has in past years, speakers covering the copper, aluminum, steel, lead and zinc industries will make presentations.
Sessions on those commodities will take place Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 10 and 11. Additionally, a Friday session will offers presentations on China as a scrap destination, with a special focus on electronic scrap.
For the second consecutive year, ISRI’s Chicago Chapter will present “Rumble at the Roundtable,” a program at the Hyatt featuring professional prizefights, dinner and cocktails, with proceeds benefiting the Chapter’s scholarship fund. That event takes place Wednesday evening.
Among the speakers at the Aluminum Roundtable, Thurs., Sept. 11, are Joe Rosengarten, Wabash Alloys LLC, Wabash, Ind.; Alan Dick of Commonwealth Aluminum Corp., Louisville, Ky.; Alan Alpert of Alpert & Alpert, Los Angeles; Neil Buxton of GFMS Metals Consulting, London; and Michael Lion of Sims Group, Malibu, Calif. The session is moderated by Stephen Moss of Stanton A. Moss Inc., Bryn Mawr, Pa.
Speakers scheduled for the Ferrous Roundtable, also on Sept. 11, include Randolph Ehret of The Timken Co., Canton, Ohio; Frank Cozzi, Metal Management Inc., Chicago; and Vicki Roche, Gerdau AmeriSteel, Tampa, Fla. John Sacco of Sierra International Machinery, Bakersfield, Calif., will moderate the ferrous session.
Joining the panel for the Lead/Zinc Roundtable, taking place Sept. 10, will be Kamal Naqvi, Macquarie Research Metals and Mining, London, England; and Colin Woodstock, an industry consultant from Kent, England. David Fink, Allied Metal, Chicago, will moderate.
Jeffrey Burhardt, Outokumpu American Brass, Buffalo, N.Y., is among the speakers at the Sept. 10 Copper/Brass Roundtable, in a session co-moderated by Jonathan Fisher of WIMCO Metals Inc., St. Louis, and Michael Friedman of ISA Inc., Louisville, Ky. Other speakers include Tom Delia of Clean Earth Recycling Inc., Philmont, N.Y.; Andy Cheling of FM Metals Inc., El Monte, Calif.; and Malcolm Southwood of J.B. Were & Son, London.
The China Trade Roundtable on Friday will be hosted by ISRI Chair Charles “Cricket” Williams. Speakers include Mary Forman of Forman Metal Co., Milwaukee; Antonio Chow of Pacific Metals Ltd., Vancouver, B.C., Canada; and Charles Freeman from the office of the U.S. Trade Representative in Washington.
