The Washington-based Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries’ (ISRI’s) board of directors has approved the association’s 2022 ISRI Advocacy Agenda, outlining the direction of the association’s advocacy activity at the local, state, federal and international levels. The latest agenda will stress that:

  • recyclable commodities are sustainable materials and that recycling is essential to the U.S. and global manufacturing supply chain;
  • recycling is sustainable manufacturing; and
  • ISRI is advocating for responsible recycling that follows recommended industry practices, standards and compliance as well as engages in an inclusive workforce and emphasizes strong community relationships.

“The advocacy agenda continues to be an ambitious yet critical platform to guide our work on behalf of our members and the broader recycling industry,” says Adina Renee Adler, ISRI’s vice president of advocacy.

According to a news release from ISRI, the association’s advocacy efforts will continue in several areas, including manufacturing sales tax exemptions for recyclers, enforcement of existing trade laws, restoration of recycling industry oversight by the Surface Transportation Board, effective legislation and law enforcement collaboration to stop materials theft and the recyclability and use of recycled content in manufactured products.

Billy Johnson, ISRI’s chief lobbyist, adds that the 2022 ISRI Advocacy Agenda provides the association with strategic goals and directions to deliver to members. Full, updated information on the agenda is posted online.
