An upcoming Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI) joint chapter meeting will feature a presentation from a long-time police officer who will lead a discussion on misconceptions existing in the scrap recycling and law enforcement communities.
When recyclers in ISRI’s Northern Ohio and Pittsburgh Chapters meet for their annual Vendor Expo on Jan. 20, 2010, they also can take part in a Metal Theft Symposium entitled, “Barney Fife vs. Sanford and Son: Dispelling Myths and Finding Common Goals.”
The session will be led by Gary Bush, a former law enforcement officer with more than 30 years of experience as a patrol officer and detective in the state of Florida.
According to the host ISRI chapters, the session “explores the different perceptions that law enforcement and recyclers have about one another, dispelling many common stereotypes (while possibly confirming others), and discusses the many opportunities available to work together toward catching criminals and reducing the incidence of material theft.” The groups add, “Gary will also demonstrate the tools available to recyclers and cops that are proving to make a difference.”
The event also features, as it does each year, displays from regional and national suppliers to the industry, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and dinner. It takes place this year at the Avalon Golf and Country Club-Buhl Park, in Hermitage, Pa., just east of the Ohio border.
Those seeking to register for the event can go to www.getmeregistered.com and look for it in the January 2010 events section.
