The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries approved two measures to promote tire recycling and the interests of tire recyclers during its annual convention.
ISRI’s Ferrous Division and board of directors approved a new specification for tire wire, which becomes effective May 9.
The association’s board also approved a new public policy position on state scrap tire laws. The policy statement addresses the need for increased recycling of scrap tires, the design and enforcement of tire regulations, market and industry promotion programs and the importance of public-private partnerships.
Previously, ISRI had not announced an official strategy for dealing with tires, although 48 states have laws and regulations on the books governing tire recycling and disposal.
ISRI also announced that it has released three new safety training videos. They are the following:
Working Safe and Smart with Shears. This video features paper shredders, guillotine shears and alligator shears.
Working Safe and Smart – Preventing Rollover. This video provides guidance in operating vehicles safely, both in the workplace and on the road.
Visual Identification of Radioactive Material. This video will help employees identify radioactive material before it can create harm at a recycling facility.
More information on any of these videotape may be obtained by contacting Mike Mattia at (202) 662-8515. Online orders may be placed at isri.org.Latest from Recycling Today
