ISRI Hoopsters Prepare to Tip Off

Hoops Hysteria event set for Cleveland on March 17.

The Northern Ohio Chapter of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI) will be hosting the fifth edition of its Hoops Hysteria event on Tuesday, March 17, at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

According to Michael Eisner of Lakeside Scrap Metals and the Northern Ohio Chapter of ISRI, the previous four Hoops Hysteria events have raised more than $50,000 for the RRF Scholarship Foundation. “The generosity of individuals and corporate sponsorships has allowed our chapter to award more than 30 significant financial scholarships to the children of Northern Ohio ISRI members over the last four years,” says Eisner.

As it has in past years, this year’s event will feature teams from participating scrap companies playing basketball in an afternoon tournament at Quicken Loans Arena (The Q), on the same floor where LeBron James and the Cavaliers take on NBA opponents.

Players will be able to test how their moves stack up against LeBron’s as the Cavaliers and the Magic take to the floor later that evening. Viewing the contest between teams with two of the NBA’s best records is part of the Hoops Hysteria schedule, as well as dinner and cocktails.

The Northern Ohio Chapter has acknowledged the following companies for their donations to the March 17 fundraising event:

  • Metal Conversions for arranging the presence of the Cavalier Cheerleader squad during the afternoon basketball tournament.
  • Midwest Steel and Alloy Inc. and Gibson Machinery for donating Cavs game tickets to be auctioned off at the Chapter’s Jan. 21 Vendors Night
  • Recycling Today magazine for donating advertising space to publicize the event
  • First Merit Bank for donating tickets to a future Cavs game that will be auctioned off at Hoops Hysteria.
  • The Cleveland Cavaliers and Mike Sansone, the team’s vice president of ticket sales, for donating the court time and “lifetime memory” opportunities for ball boys and ball girls and bench seats.
  • Lakeside Scrap Metals for donating postage and organizing time to manage and promote the event.
