ISRI Gulf Coast Prepares for Convention

The ISRI Gulf Coast Convention takes place June 12-16 at the Beau Rivage Resort.

The Beau Rivage resort in Biloxi, Miss., will serve as the host site for the 2002 Convention of the Gulf Coast Chapter of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI). The Gulf Coast Convention takes place Jun 12-16.

Recyclers from the U.S. Southeast and beyond will gather at the resort for training and market dialogue sessions, to stroll the exhibit hall, and to socialize on the golf course and at the gaming tables of the Beau Rivage.

“I think it will be terrific,” Manny Bodner of Bodner Iron & Metal, Houston, says of the upcoming event. Bodner is a former ISRI Gulf Coast Chapter officer who admits he is looking forward to being simply an attendee this year, so he can sit in on the sessions that will be presented.

“I think it will be a very good program,” says Bodner. “There is a good ferrous panel with some of key processors and consumers comprising that panel, and also an outstanding nonferrous panel forming a separate dialogue.”

The ferrous dialogue, entitled “Steel Mill and Scrap Supplier Problems and Solutions,” will take place Friday morning June 14 at 8:00 a.m. Speaking will be Charles “Cricket” Williams of Charles Williams & Son Inc., Richmond, Va. He is also current ISRI National chairman. Also speaking is Michael Paris of Nucor Corp., Charlotte, N.C., Robert Muhlan of AmeriSteel, Tampa, Fla., and Larry Schnurbusch of IPSCO Enterprises, Montpelier, Iowa. The dialogue will be moderated by Ben Morris of Morris Recycling Inc., New Albany, Miss., and Tom Danjczek of the Steel Manufacturers Institute (SMI), Washington.

The nonferrous dialogue will take place later on Friday morning, followed by a luncheon speech by Danjczek of SMI.

Other presentations taking place will include a live “Friday Report” from Bob Garino and a safety and training update from ISRI’s Mike Mattia on Saturday and an environmental update from a guest speaker taking place Friday afternoon.

Gulf Coast golfers will gather Thursday morning for a 7:00 a.m. continental breakfast followed by an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.
