Tennessee Valley Recycling LLC, Decatur, Ala., and Sidney Grossman of St. Louis’ Grossman Iron and Steel were both honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards by the association. The awards were presented by ISRI Chair Frank Cozzi at the Chair’s Breakfast during the ISRI Annual Convention held recently in New Orleans.

During the breakfast, Cozzi commented on the state of today’s scrap recycling industry. While he said that the 2007 convention’s theme of “momentum” certainly applies to the current market conditions, which are marked by strong prices and growing global trade, Cozzi also said that the industry also faces new challenges, calling particular attention to the issue of metals theft. “Metals theft has the potential to bring regulation like our industry has never seen before,” Cozzi said. He called on fellow association members to help ISRI advocate for responsible legislation that will help curb theft and also protect the scrap industry. “Metals theft is bad news for our communities and bad news for us,” he said.

The Chair’s Breakfast also featured comments from keynote speaker John Bolton, former ambassador to the United Nations.

Former ambassador John Bolton discussed the ongoing crises Flain Iran and North Korea during his address at the President's Breakfast.
