The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI), Washington, D.C., has appointed Joseph Pickard as chief economist and director of commodities. He succeeds Bob Garino, who has held the position of director of commodities with the association for the past 25 years.
Pickard is currently an economist for The International Copper Study Group (ICSG), Lisbon, Portugal. As an economist for the ICSG, Pickard conducts economic analysis, including copper scrap usage and estimating country, regional and world recycling rates, as well as following leading economic indicators and other key economic information.
He will start with ISRI the middle of 2011.
Garino, who is retiring at the end of 2010, began his career with the scrap recycling industry in 1985 when he joined the National Association for the Recycling Industry (NARI). When NARI transitioned to the ISRI, Garino followed.
"The entire scrap recycling industry owes a tremendous debt to Bob Garino," says ISRI President Robin Wiener in a news release. "He has been a driving force in providing our industry with key data and market trends on a wide range of commodities and he is highly respected both within the industry and within the analysts' community.”
