ISRI Announces Warning

Association warns that fraudulent documentation for shipments is being circulated.

ISRI is warning scrap customers to watch out for fraudulent certification documents like this one. ISRI does not inspect or certify shipments of scrap.

Fla
Association notes that it does not inspect scrap shipments.

Scrap customers should be on the lookout for fraudulent "certificates of ownership" that imply that ISRI has inspected and certified a shipment—since ISRI is not and has never been in the inspections business.

A company in India has indicated to ISRI that a North American company has been issuing the fraudulent certificates, which display a since discontinued ISRI logo and other information meant to make the certificate look authentic. The documents imply that ISRI has inspected and certified a shipment as authentic and free of radiation and munitions. (click here to view larger image of fake document)

"The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries does not inspect scrap shipments and does not provide documentation of shipments under any circumstances,” said Scott Horne, Vice President and General Counsel for ISRI. “These certificates are fraudulent. They are an unauthorized use of ISRI’s name and logo and a misrepresentation of the business of our association. ISRI plans to fully investigate options for enforcement against the company or companies that are found to be using these certificates."

ISRI does not inspect shipments and does not provide documentation for shipments. Documents indicating otherwise are fraudulent. Anyone coming across documents indicating that ISRI has inspected or approved a shipment are asked to contact Scott Horne, 202/662-8513; e-mail, scotthorne@isri.org.
