ISRI Announces Speakers for Commodity Sessions

Convention will have top speakers for metals, paper sessions.

The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, Inc. has announced its roster of speakers for its upcoming annual convention in Las Vegas.

 

The commodity spotlights feature panels of industry leaders plus a moderator, with speakers focusing their respective remarks on the challenges and opportunities facing the industry for the current year and beyond.

 

The following are slated to discuss markets for the various commodities:

 

Copper Spotlight. The program will be moderated by Michael Friedman, Scrap & Waste, LLC. Speakers include Herb Black, American Iron & Metal Co. Inc.; John E. Gross, Spencer Brass, Inc.; Robert Loewen, Robert J. Loewen & Associates; and Timothy Strelitz, California Metal-X.

 

Paper Spotlight. “The New World Order and the Future of Paper Recovery” will focus on the mega-trends playing out in Europe, Asia especially China, and the U.S. that are causing significant increases in consumption of paper and how this demand for paper is creating new annual demand for recovered paper over the next five to ten years. Featured speaker is Pete Grogan, Weyerhaeuser Recycling.

 

Aluminum Spotlight. The following are slated to give commodity presentations: Robin Bhar, UBS Investment Bank; and Stepen Johnston, Alcan, Inc. Moderating the spotlight is ISRI member Tom Mele of Connecticut Metal Industries.

 

Nickel & Stainless Steel Spotlight. Primary nickel fundamentals will be addressed by Santo Ranieri, Falconbridge Ltd. Meanwhile, Jason Schenker, Wachovia Corp., will focus on both nickel and its largest end-use consuming market, stainless steel. An analysis of international trade in stainless steel scrap will be given by Yogi Shah, Recoup Industries. ISRI member Robert Katz of Keywell, LLC, will moderate.

 

Ferrous Spotlight. Speakers will take a close look at the North American and European steel markets as they relate to the global market in general and China's position in the global marketplace specifically. Speakers include John Carter, Schnitzer Steel Industries; Karlis Kirsis, World Steel Dynamics; Mark Parr, Key Banc Capital Markets Metal Research; Christian Rubach, Rolf Willeke, BDSV. ISRI member Frank Goulding of Newell Recycling of Atlanta will moderate the session.

 

Preliminary registration figures indicate that this will be one of the largest conventions in ISRI’s history, including the largest trade show in the industry with more than 190 exhibitors showcasing the latest in equipment, products, and services for scrap recyclers on a 167,000-square foot exhibit floor.
