IRN Recognized by Mass. Architects Group

Jobsite recycling organization will work with architects in Massachusetts to boost recycling levels.

The Institution Recycling Network has been approved by the Boston Society of Architects to offer American Institute of Architects Learning Units in construction waste management to architects.

Architects throughout the Northeast can use these credits toward re-licensing and regulations that were enacted in April 2003.

Under regulations, all registered architects in Massachusetts are required to take 12 hours a year of approved continuing education, eight of which must be in subjects specifically related to public health, safety, and welfare. The IRN was approved as an education provider in this category. Most other New England states have enacted similar continuing education requirements.

The IRN is a cooperative recycling organization that manages the recycling of more than 75 different materials for education and healthcare institutions and other clients throughout New England.

The IRN addresses these concerns in its continuing education programs. The IRN documents that significant cost savings can be achieved by recycling rather than disposing of most construction wastes.

The IRN also addresses issues related to logistics, time and space constraints, training, and scheduling.

The IRN provides the one-hour program at no cost to architects and related professional groups throughout New England.
