Irish Polymers of Crumlin, Northern Ireland has opened the first fully automatic sort facility for post consumer plastic bottles in Ireland representing an investment of 1.5 million Euros. Up until this point used plastic bottles collected throughout Ireland for recycling were simply baled and exported
Through the new sorting plant in Northern Ireland, this material is being automatically sorted into various polymer types using German technology in the new 20,000 sq ft factory in Crumlin.
Irish Polymers plans to process around 10,000 metric tons of mixed plastic bottles within the next twelve months. This material will be collected from the North and South of Ireland and represents about 60 percent of what is collected totally on island.
