International Paper Co. will cut 760 jobs as it closes its pulp and paper mill in Erie, Pa., due to weakness in the global pulp market.
The mill employs 740 workers, less than 1 percent of the company's total work force. The remaining job cuts will come from the mill's support teams.
International Paper said it will shut down the pulp operations in the fourth quarter, and the overall mill by the end of the second quarter 2002. Production will be moved to facilities in Ohio, New York, Virginia and Alabama, it said.
