International Paper announced that it will be closing its board mill in Terre Haute, Ind., by the end of this year.
The company cited the small size of the facility and high manufacturing costs as key reasons for the decision to shutter the mill.
The decision to close the mill follows a study, performed by IP, which looked at options to boost the company’s containerboard business. One step the company looked at was either the sale or closure of the Indiana mill. While it looked at possibly selling the mill, the company, in a statement, said the sale would not be feasible.
The mil, which began 90 years ago, produces around 200,000 tons of corrugated medium a year.
