The International Association of Plastics Distribution (IAPD) has presented Interstate Plastics, Sacramento, California, with a bronze award in Environmental Excellence to honor its in-house recycling program. The award was presented at the 59th Annual IAPD Convention in San Diego Sept. 23, 2015.
Interstate Plastics was recognized for its companywide recycling effort that began in 2014 and includes recycling scrap, runoff and remnant material.
Interstate Plastics Safety and Quality Manager Rich McDevitt, who has spearheaded the company’s green initiatives, says, “it is important that we recycle and reuse all materials, not just plastics. Although sometimes challenging to implement in large settings, recycling is very rewarding.”
In addition to winning the Environmental Excellence Award, Interstate Plastics has joined the GreenScene™ program of IAPD, which is based in Overland Park, Kansas. That program is designed to honor member companies that engage in environmentally conscious practices.
Interstate Plastics is a distributor of plastic sheet, rod, tube, bar, film and profiles, as well as plastic accessories, tools and care products. The company has 10 locations in the United States and an online sales and support staff.
Regarding Interstate Plastics and other award winners, Susan Avery, CEO of IAPD, stated at the awards ceremony, “IAPD is proud to honor the accomplishments of these seven companies with the Environmental Excellence Award. Life cycle analyses show that plastics are often the most environmentally friendly material to use for applications, and as shown in the examples from [these] companies, the manufacturing of those plastics can also be done in an environmentally responsible manner.”
The IAPD’s Environmental Excellence Awards were established in 2008 “to celebrate environmentally-conscious IAPD member organizations for excellence in recycling, conservation, community awareness and employee engagement.”
