Interseroh, based in Cologne, Germany, has increased its stake in its joint venture with the Polish scrap recycler TOM Sp.z.o.o. Interseroh now holds a 70 percent ownership stake in the company, which has 10 sites in Poland.
The Polish facilities handle around 350,000 metric tons of ferrous and nonferrous metal a year. The company also is involved in the international steel trading business.
"Acquiring a majority in TOM is an important step in Interseroh’s international growth strategy. We also aim for further expansion in the Baltic Sea region", says Johannes-Jürgen Albus, Interseroh’s CEO. "In addition, we plan to solidify our regional presence in Germany and are actively involved in the current process of concentration and consolidation in the steel recycling market."
"TOM has the necessary international orientation and supplies scrap to the Central and Southern European market as well as to the Far East." Overall responsibility for the Polish company will be transferred to the group’s Interseroh Hansa Recycling, while TOM’s managing director Jaromir Zandecki will stay in its post.
Interseroh also has acquired three German steel recycling companies located in the Frankfort and Dusseldorf areas of Germany.
The company is taking over Rohstoffhandelsgesellschaft, as well as increasing its stakes in Wagner Rohstoffe GmbH, and Muller Rohstoffe GmbH.
The company’s share in the companies Wagner and Muller will allow Interseroh to grow their business in central Germany. The acquisition of RuP will extend Interseroh’s business in the Rhineland area.
Muller and Wagner together process around 120,000 tons per year of ferrous scrap and 40,000 tons per year of non-ferrous scrap. RuP’s capacity amounts to 400,000 tons per year of steel scrap.
"Acquiring the new sites is an important part in Interseroh’s strategy of growth", said Albus. "We plan to solidify our regional presence particularly in Germany as well as to expand our business in Poland and the Baltic Sea region.
