The New York Department of Environmental Conservation has announced that it will allow the International Paper Co. Ticonderoga mill to conduct a two-week test burn of chipped tires as fuel, according to a report in the Burlington Free Press (Burlington, Vt.).
The company had asked three years ago for permission to test the viability of adding chipped tires to the No. 6 fuel oil and bark it burns to power its paper making operations as a way to lower fuel costs, according to the report.
