The Mississippi-based energy firm Entergy recently entered into an agreement with Intechra to begin remarketing, redeploying and recycling Entergy’s obsolete electronic equipment.
Intechra will manage the equipment from pickup through recycling. Useful equipment is either remarketed for sale or redeployed to other organizations, with a zero-landfill policy in effect for equipment that has reached the end of its useful life.
“Intechra’s first quarterly report to Entergy shows that we recycled nearly 7,400 units, offset our handling costs by nearly 50 percent and received value from the sale of refurbished assets from Intechra,” says Rick Johnson, Entergy’s manager of corporate environmental operations.
“As part of our agreement with Entergy, the recycling program will sanitize and effectively destroy all information on computer hard drives to protect the company from information security risks,” says Michael Profit, chief executive officer of Intechra Group. “While employees may not bring in their own personal electronics for recycling, they, along with the general public, can purchase recycled units on the Intechra Web site.”
Entergy Mississippi Inc. provides electricity and power to 2.7 million customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
