The Recycling Division of Sweden’s Svedala Industries, based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has announced that 2001 sales of new processing equipment are on pace to break what was a record year in 2000.
Despite scrap metal prices that have remained in a trough for most of the past two years, the company continues to find markets for its balers, shredders, and shears. Sales of castings and other wear parts have also boosted the division’s sales totals, according to Bill Tigner, vice president and general manager of the Svedala Industries Recycling Division/North America.
“The exciting thingis, we began the year with tremendous focus on service and aftermarket parts, not equipment sales,” says Tigner. “The scrap processors apparently welcomed this approach and also recognized the new innovations in our shredder, shears and baler programs,” he adds.
Among the 2001 orders booked so far are those for a 98/104 shredder plant at CRG Inc. in Lyman, S.C.;a 1,500-ton shear for CFF North America in Houston; a baler for Triple M Metals in Brampton, Ontario, Canada; and two balers for Kampf Inc. in Texas andTennessee.
The company has also booked nearly ten orders this year for installations in Europe and Asia for equipment from its Svedala and Svedala Lindemann lines of European-made shears, balers and shredders.
Tigner says the pending merger of Svedala into Finland’s Metso Corp. will not jeopardize thecontinuing operations of Svedala’s Recycling Division. “We’ve met with theMetso CEO, and Metso likes the green aspect to our business, which helps the company diversify beyond its mining and aggregates equipment operations,” he comments.
