Hammond, Indiana-based Northlake Auto Recyclers Inc. and Valparaiso, Indiana-based Metro Auto Recyclers have both received Indiana Clean Yard-Gold Level awards from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM).
This is Northlake Auto Recyclers’ ninth award and Metro Auto Recyclers’ eighth award.
Hani Sharaya, senior environmental engineer with IDEM’s Compliance & Technical Assistance Program (CTAP), and Julie Rhodes, pollution prevention and compliance assistance manager at IDEM, presented a commemorative certificate to Northlake Auto Recyclers Owner Marty Hollingshead.
Malorie Medellin, senior environmental manager with CTAP presented a commemorative certificate to Metro Auto Recyclers Operations Manager John Leegwater.
Northlake Auto Recyclers also was the only facility to earn 100 percent on its Indiana Clean Yard inspection this year. The department says Hollingshead has been instrumental in working with the auto recycling industry and IDEM to recommend enhancements that promote the growth of the Clean Yard program and encourage high standards for environmental stewardship within the industry.
IDEM has partnered with Automotive Recyclers of Indiana (ARI) to develop the “Indiana Clean Yard” recognition program to reward auto salvage yard operators who meet two different levels of requirements: “Indiana Clean Yard” and “Indiana Clean Yard – Gold Level.”
