The Indiana Department of Environmental Management will hold a public hearing on Nucor Steel's application for a construction and operation permit under the Prevention of Significant Deterioration program, for its Crawfordville, Ind., plant. The company plans to install a vacuum degassing unit including a natural gas-fired boiler and a flare to control carbon monoxide emissions.
The hearing will be a formal proceeding where IDEM officials hear and record written and oral comments from citizens about the proposed draft permit. Comments relevant to this draft permit that are given at the hearing will be considered before IDEM makes a final decision in the matter.
The public comment period for this permit ends April 26, 2004, and letters must be postmarked by this date. Those who wish to submit written comments should send them to: Iryn Calilung , IDEM, Office of Air Quality, P.O. Box 6015, Indianapolis, IN 46206.
