The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has issued grants totaling $318,828 to 10 groups in the state. The IDEM says that the money will result in more than 21 million pounds of material diverted from the landfill.
Thomas Easterly, IDEM’s commissioner, said, "IDEM is proud to have a part in making Indiana’s environment better. The recycling grants are a positive way to make a difference in Hoosier communities. The collective environmental impacts of these grants are quite impressive. The bottom line is that Indiana will have a better environment because of Hoosiers stepping forward to make a difference at the local level."
The money being allocated brings the total to more than $25.3 million since the agency began awarded the money.
The recycling grant award recipients are the following: town of Burlington; city of Crown Point; Lake County Department of Public Works; city of LaPorte; town of Otterbein; city of Terre Haute; the Harrison County Solid Waste Management District; Peak Community Services; Sisters of Providence; and Earlham College.
