India’s Director General of Foreign Trade has examined a suggestion received from the Bombay Metal Exchange for exempting import of non-ferrous scrap from the present procedures that are laid down for such imports. The imports of all kinds of metallic scrap and waste are required to adhere to the present procedures in order to ensure that they do not contain any explosive or radioactive material.
This procedure has put in place after wide consultations with concerned Ministries/ Department. It has not been found feasible to accede to the request of the Bombay Metal Exchange. This was stated by Shri EVKS Elangovan, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
