Orem, Utah, has created a recycling market zone, a program that gives state tax credits to businesses that expand their use of recycled materials in the manufacturing process, according to a report in the Salt Lake City Desert News.
The program, sponsored by the Utah Department of Community and Economic Development, also offers tax breaks to businesses that collect recycled materials for processing.
“Utah is behind the curve nationally, but we’re doing better,” Les Prall, who oversees the state program, tells the Desert News. He says as of December, 30 municipalities have applied for and received zones, up from five in 1997.
