Imco Recycling Inc. announced that its Saginaw, Mich., aluminum alloying plant has been awarded both QS 9000 and ISO 14001 Certificates of Registration by the Steel Related Industries Quality System Registrar.
The Saginaw facility is operated by IMCO's specialty alloys division that supplies specification aluminum alloys to auto and light truck manufacturers and their suppliers.
The certificates were awarded to the plant after audits of its production and environmental policies and procedures were carried out by SRI. According to SRI, the Saginaw facility is the first aluminum alloying plant to earn both certificates simultaneously.
Gary Merritt, manager of the Saginaw plant, said: "Our employees can take pride in the awarding of these certificates because they provide assurance that customers will consistently receive the highest quality products, and that our operations are conducted in an environmentally sound manner."
All of the production from the Saginaw facility is used to meet the terms of a contract to supply General Motors Corp. with almost two billion pounds of aluminum alloys over a 13-year period.
