Illinois Townships Band Together on Residential E-Scrap Drop Off Program

County says it is the first in the state to offer regular e-scrap collection.

Several townships in Will County, Ill. have banded together to offer several drop off locations for electronic scrap throughout the country.

The Will County Land Use Department, which is sponsoring the program, claims that it is the first in Illinois to offer year-round free collection to residents for all items with a computer chip.

The program is starting with four sites where residents of the county can drop off electronic equipment. The drop-off sites are in Channahon Township, Bolingbrook, Plainfield Township, Troy Township, and Washington Township. Troy and Washington Townships will begin their collection program later this month, while Plainfield is expected to introduce its collection depot later this year.

The county expects several other townships to join the partnership to provide drop off sites for electronic equipment.

Vintage Tech Recyclers, located in Plainfield, Ill., will be providing collection of the material under a two-year contract with a one-year option. The company received two grants for electronic recycling from the state of Illinois.

While the county has provided once a year drop off events over the past several years, the difference now is that these drop off facilities will be open throughout the year.
