IFAT India courts young talent

2016 event will be in Mumbai in late September.

Fun and excitement—that´s the idea behind the new Active Learning Centre at IFAT India, India´s leading trade fair for environmental technology. This year for the first time, a special area will be dedicated to training, live demonstrations and skills contests. The aim of the Active Learning Centre is to promote talent and to combat the shortage of skilled workers in the Indian environmental sector.

The next IFAT India takes place 28-30 September 2016 in the Bombay Exhibition Centre (BEC) in Mumbai. Application documents for exhibitors are available online now.

The Active Learning Centre consists of three parts:

  • In University Challenge, teams of students from national universities will put their knowledge to the test designing a “smart city” with intelligent resource management.
  • In Products in Practice, leading experts will give live demonstrations of specific products and machines, on which young people will then be put to the test.
  • A further skills competition is aimed at professionals with a few years work experience; it consists of practical training exercises, such as maintenance, process control and safety at work.

The special characteristic of the Active Learning Centre at IFAT India is that the program is specifically tailored to the needs and requirements of the Indian environmental sector. It is being organized in cooperation with the DWA, Germany´s Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste.

According to the show organiser, Messe München, the environmental market in India has great potential, as underlined by the success of IFAT India in 2015. A total of 136 exhibitors (a rise of 10% on the previous event) took part in that event. More than 4,100 visitors came to Mumbai to find out about the latest solutions and products in the segments of water, sewage, refuse and recycling.
