IEEE to Hold Electronics Sustainability Event in D.C.

Electronics products end-of-life management among topics of May 2010 event.

The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Technical Committee on Sustainable Systems and Technology and the IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology have announced the 2010 IEEE International Symposium on Sustainable Systems and Technology (ISSST) will take place May 16-19, 2010 in Washington, D.C.

The event offers a series of presentations on environmental and sustainability topics as they pertain to the life cycle of engineered products, their applications, and society, says the IEEE.

In a letter from the ISSST conference co-chairs, the group says the deadline for submitting abstracts for the May 2010 event has been extended to November 30, 2009. The call for papers (CFP) is available by clicking on the following link --  Call for Papers.

The 2010 program is scheduled to feature presentations on environmental design, manufacturing, new technologies, end-of-life management, information and communication services, emerging technologies, education, and policy initiatives from presenters drawn from industry, academia, consulting and the public policy areas.

This year’s ISSST theme is “Design for Sustainability,” including coverage of emerging technologies and their impact on energy, materials and systems across the life cycle. Of particular interest are non-traditional technologies being considered in emerging products (such as fuel cells and nanomaterials) and future trends in end-of-life management for both new processes and new products.

Details on the conference, abstract submission and student paper and poster competitions are available at the conference website IEEE:  .
