IE Expo in Shanghai draws 43,000 visitors

Environmental show held in May 2016 was organised by Messe München.

Messe München, organisers of the IE Expo 2016, say the event in Shanghai attracted more than 1,300 exhibitors and 43,000 visitors, demonstrating 20% growth in exhibitors and 7% growth in attendance compared with the previous version of the event.

The event took place at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) from 5-7 May 2016, and the organisers say they are already preparing for the 2017 version of the expo, which will be 4-6 May 2017.

“The demand for environmental technology is still on the rise,” says Stefan Rummel, managing director of Messe München. “Although there is a slowdown in China´s economy, our numbers increased in terms of exhibitors and visitors,” he adds.

The more than 1,300 exhibitors “presented their latest solutions and technologies in the field of water, waste, air pollution control and site remediation at IE Expo 2016,” says Messe München. Along with China, the nations most strongly represented among the exhibiting companies were Germany, the United States, Japan, South Korea and France.

Wang Yuqing, president of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, says, “IE expo is a very good platform for the promotion of environmental products and technological communication. This year there are a lot of exhibitors from an extremely wide range of fields. The foreign exhibitors are especially active, which is a reflection of the fast growth and promising future of the environmental industry in China.”

Of the 43,000 visitors, the vast majority came from the Asian region. The five countries and regions most strongly represented among the visitors, after China, were South Korea, Russia, Japan, India and Taiwan.

The response to the Shanghai event has been so encouraging that Messe München is introducing what it calls a “spin-off” event in the south China city of Guangzhou. “Following the excellent response to this event, we are looking forward to IE Expo Guangzhou, a regional spin-off that is oriented specifically to the environmental market of south China,” say Jiang Gang. IE expo Guangzhou will take place 24-26 November 2016 at the China Import & Export Fair Complex.
