Karl-Heinz Florenz will be awarded with the 2010 Cowbell Award at the 9th International Electronics Recycling Congress (IERC), to be held Jan. 20-22, 2010 in Salzburg, Austria, according to a press release from ICM AG, the event’s organizer.
Florenz will receive the award “in recognition of his outstanding commitment, leadership and fight for a sustainable world, which has resulted in the creation of the most important regulation regarding electronics waste recycling on the European continent,” the release says. Florenz is endearingly referred to as the Father of the European WEEE Directive.
Florenz was nominated for the award by the Steering Committee of the IERC and will be honored in a ceremony to take place Jan. 20, at 11:30 a.m. in the Congress Center, Salzburg Austria.
