IBM Japan and Hitachi announced that they have co-developed a business PC recycling system, and will begin commercial operations on November 18.
The new recycling service will cover PCs, monitors, printers, and other peripherals.
The latest system that the companies developed manages the overall recycling processes ranging from order taking and management to transport, collection, and manifest.
The system supports encrypted data communications, and allows users to check the recycling processes on the Web.
IBM Japan and Hitachi will transport used PCs that they collect separately to 15 collection centers for separation and sorting. They will then outsource recycling operations to intermediate recycling dealers.
The recyclable products and components will be reused at the partners' reuse centers.
