Norsk Hydro has taken over ownership of Hamburger-Werk’s casthouse facility. The company signed a deal with the joint owners of the facility, Alcoa and AMAG. The contract is valid as of Jan. 1, 2006. Previously, the three companies each had a one-third ownership of the casthouse.
The casthouse will produce aluminum sheet ingots from both ingots and aluminum scrap. The casthouse will be Hydro’s largest fully owned remelting plant, and will have an annual capacity of 130,000 metric tons. Ownership of the facility also will guarantee Norsk Hydro a steady supply of raw material to the company’s rolling mill at the Hamburg, Germany facility.
