Norsk Hydro, an aluminum producer that operates facilities in the United States and Europe, is now offering its recycled-content Hydro Circal-branded aluminum in both extrusion ingot and foundry alloy formats.
The company says Circal, which is made at several different Hydro facilities, contains a minimum of 75 percent postconsumer scrap content. In its new forms, Hydro notes it can enable automotive companies to use Circal for critical parts such as wheels, battery boxes and structural and engine components.
By introducing foundry alloys to the Circal portfolio, Hydro says it has strengthened its support for automotive customers seeking to reduce emissions and increase circularity practices.
“Hydro Circal has set the benchmark for recycled aluminum since its launch in 2019,” says Hanne Simensen, an executive vice president at Hydro. “We are excited to create new tailor-made solutions for our customers that support their ambitious decarbonization roadmaps.”
The metals producer says several of its customers, particularly in the automotive sector, have expressed interest in using Circal in a foundry alloy format.
The expansion to foundry alloys comes shortly after the Hydro Alumetal Nowa Sól sorting plant in Poland was verified by a third-party auditor to meet Circal standards. Alumetal was fully acquired by Hydro in 2023.
