Norway-based aluminum producer Hydro, has received approval from the German Federal Cartel Office to complete its acquisition of WMR Recycling GmbH, located in Dormagen, Germany.
Hydro had signed an agreement to acquire WMR Recycling in late February 2015. Hydro says WMR operates what it calls “the most advanced aluminum scrap sorting technology in the world.”
WMR becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Hydro and is now known as Hydro Aluminium Recycling Deutschland GmbH.
The newly acquired facility uses X-ray transmission and several other sorting techniques and is able to sort 36,000 metric tons of aluminum scrap per year. The plant will supply Hydro’s smelters in Europe with shredded and sorted aluminum scrap.
