Hydro Aluminum North America announced plans to invest $8.3 million to upgrade its casthouse for primary-quality aluminum billet in St. Augustine, Florida. The investment will double the facility's capacity to 60,000 metric tons per year.
The upgrade is expected to take place by the middle of this year. It is part of the company’s $100 million plan to build new or revamped aluminum remelt capacity in the United States.
The upgrades will allow the St. Augustine facility to recycle larger volumes of aluminum, while still producing primary-quality aluminum billet for the marketplace. Following the upgrade, the St. Augustine facility will expand its supply to other extruders, including the nearby Hydro Aluminum Automotive Plant in Rockledge, Fla.
