The Brunswick County (NC) Superior Court has ruled in favor of Hugo Neu Corp., and its proposed shredding operation in Navassa, NC. The case was brought forward by a local group called the New Brunswick Citizens for a Safe Environment. The environmental group filed a suit last summer over the city’s plan to issue a permit to build a shredding operation in the state.
The group had filed a complaint asking the Brunswick County Superior Court to nullify approvals ganted by Navassa to North Carolina Resource Conservation, LLC and North Carolina Recycling, LLC.
The complaint asked the court to void the issuance of a franchise ordinance granting the comapny a franchise to operate a landfill and recycling facility.
However, a court ruling, made Dec. 17th, allows the comapny to go forward on the project.
Douglas Clark, an executive with Hugo Neu Corp., responsible for the Navassa Recycling project expressed appreciation to the Town of Navassa and its residents for supporting the Company through the regulatory process, and further recognizes the contributions made by its professional staff, consultants, and attorneys.
“The company is naturally pleased that the case was dismissed and resolves the issues brought by the Citizen’s group”.
According to published reports Hugo Neu, based in New York City, hopes to have the facility operational by next year.
The company initially proposed building a 750 acre nonferrous metal recycling facility in the city. The facility would extract nonferrous metal from automotive fluff delivered to the facility.
