HSM to spotlight cross-strapping technology at IFAT

German equipment maker will demonstrate its new bale strapping technology.

Frickengen, Germany-based HSM GmbH + Co. KG says it will present several innovations at the Munich IFAT trade fair in early May 2020, including a new cross-strapping unit for its automated large channel (extrusion) balers. IFAT is described by HSM as “the world's leading trade fair for water, sewage, waste and raw materials management.”

With the cross-strapping unit, bales can be strapped five times horizontally and four times vertically. According to HSM, the cross-strapping “is particularly used for expansive materials, such as foils, but also for hard plastic, and is therefore the answer to the growing demands on plastic sorting and recycling.”

Cross-strapping can be helpful in preventing small plastic parts from falling out of bales, according to the firm. “To process less expansive material, such as cardboard boxes etc., cross-strapping can be easily switched off, thus saving strapping wire,” states HSM. “During the design phase, special attention was paid to user-friendly accessibility and handling of the wire and the unit,” adds the company.

From May 4-8 at the HSM IFAT exhibit space, in Hall B5, booth 251/350, visitors will be able to see the cross-strapping demonstrated on site, using an HSM VK 15020 R FU model channel baler.

The automated HSM VK 15020 R FU is described by the company as “the most powerful baling press in the HSM range.” The model can compress up to 44 tons per hour of mixed paper, creating bales that each weigh around 1.25 tons.

Adds HSM regarding the VK 15020 R FU with cross-strapping technology, “For economical truck utilization, the five-wire strapped bales are designed with a cross-section of 1,100 millimeters (mm) by 1,100 mm (43 inches by 43 inches). The bale length can be adjusted exactly as required up to 2,800 mm (110 inches).”
