The Healthcare Plastics Recycling Council (HPRC) has added Covidien, a Mansfield, Mass.-based provider of health care products, as its newest member. The addition of Covidien brings the total number of member companies for HPRC to 12.
“We are excited to have Covidien join forces with HPRC,” says Tod Christenson, director of HPRC. “As we seek to improve the recyclability of plastic products in healthcare, their insights will be instrumental. Covidien’s track record of innovation and clinical leadership brings invaluable bench strength to our collaborative efforts to inform, influence, and be a catalyst for change for sustainable healthcare products and packaging.”
In a news release, Joe Jansen, vice president of environmental, health and safety for Covidien, says, “Membership in the HPRC will complement Covidien’s key initiatives around innovation and productivity, as well as support our sustainability vision and strategy. This membership will allow us to work with stakeholders to identify opportunities to reduce the impact of our medical devices and supplies products at end of life. Covidien is constantly looking for opportunities to be more environmentally responsive.”
Other HPRC members include Baxter, BD, Cardinal Health, DuPont, Eastman, Engineered Plastics LLC, Hospira, Johnson & Johnson, Kimberly-Clark, Philips and Waste Management Inc.
