The United States Composting Council (USCC) Legislative and Environmental Affairs Committee has announced updates to its programming at the Annual Conference, which takes place Jan. 26-29 in Houston.

The USCC Legislative and Environmental Affairs Committee is hosting its two-part program at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at the Galleria II location. The program’s two parts are:

  • “Fighting Threats to Landfill Bans” will offer updates on landfilling bans covering leaves, grass and other organics in Michigan, Missouri and Georgia and the efforts to oppose the bans. Presentations will cover practical approaches to changing state policies and how to hire a lobbyist and scheduled presenters include J.D. Lindenberg of Resource Recycling Systems of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Rebecca Garety of St. Louis Composting.

  • “Compost-positive Initiatives as part of the Economic Stimulus Program” will attempt to identify and set priorities for USCC feedback to Congress to encourage the growth of the composting industry. Ideas will be explored in three broad categories: economic incentives, regulatory reform and market development.  Suggestions may be e-mailed ahead of time to jdl@recycle.com. The session will be facilitated by J.D. Lindenberg, who is chair of the USCC’s Legislative and Environmental Affairs Committee.
