The Horry County Solid Waste Authority (SWA) will host a grand opening celebration for its new material recovery facility (MRF) located in
The event will be Tuesday, April 29, beginning at 2 p.m. It will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, reception and speeches by several individuals from various state, county and local entities. In addition, tours of the facility will be available for all attendees.
The facility was constructed following green building guidelines set by the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system and is seeking a silver certification.
The 48,000-square-foot MRF processes a variety of recyclables, including cardboard, newspaper, office paper, aluminum, tin, plastics, etc. The MRF is capable of processing more than twice the amount of recyclables processed at the former facility, which was located in
