HOBI Receives R2 Certification

Illinois electronics recycling company receives certification.

HOBI International Inc., an electronic asset management and recycling company with corporate offices in Batavia, Ill., and Dallas, says it has become the first recycling company in Illinois to receive R2 Certification.

According to HOBI, Responsible Recycling Practices, or R2, is the standard supported by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), major computer OEMs, the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), state and local governments and the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI). R2 was developed through a multi-stakeholder process facilitated by the EPA .
R2 sets forth a set of requirements for the electronics recycling industry regarding worker health, safety and security practices. R2 also solidifies general principles and specific practices for recycling organizations disassembling or reclaiming used electronic equipment.
Cathy Hill, co-founder and CEO of HOBI says, “HOBI has been a part of the R2 developmental process since its inception. It is very rewarding to know that the standard is a reflection of the best-in-class service providers in the industry. R2 has made HOBI a better company and establishes the strong level of ethics HOBI has always abided by in our industry.”
In addition to being R2 certified, HOBI is certified to the ISO 14001 environmental management standard. HOBI services Fortune 2,000 corporations in the process of asset management, reverse logistics, data erasure and destruction as well as in infrastructure resale and environmentally compliant recycling.
