History Made at Ohio Magnetics

History Channel film crew visits for “Modern Marvels” program on magnets.

Scrap recyclers may take their lifting magnets and drum magnets for granted, but the producers of the “Modern Marvels” television program are still impressed.

A film crew from the program, which airs on The History Channel, part of A&E Television Networks, New York, was recently on location at the Ohio Magnetics-Stearns Magnetics plant in Maple Heights, Ohio, near Cleveland, as well as at an auto shredder yard in Columbus, Ohio.

According to Ohio Magnetics Inc. Sales Manager Ken Richendollar, the crew is filming in February for a one-hour “Modern Marvels” episode on magnets that will air this spring.

One of the episode’s four segments will focus on the material handling aspects of magnets and will include footage shot at the Ohio Magnetics location as well as at the Columbus Auto Shredding Inc. scrap yard, owned by Randall Hall.

Equipment making a prime time appearance on The History Channel will include a 71-inch Ohio Magnetics lifting magnet and two 84-inch-wide Stearns Magnetics drum units.

Other topics covered during the program will include ornamental refrigerator magnets, and laser magnets being developed by researchers at universities, according to Richendollar.
