Hendrix Initiates Insulator Recycling Program

Wire and cable company’s mail-in program targets HDPE insulators.

Hendrix Wire & Cable has started its Cradle-to-Cradle program to recycle its HPI Polyethylene Insulator (HPI) products.

Hendrix Wire & Cable, a Milford, N.H.-based provider of overhead and underground power distribution products, has started its Cradle-to-Cradle program to recycle its HPI Polyethylene Insulator (HPI) products.

Used or scrap insulators, which are made with No. 2 High Density Polyethylene (HDPE ) plastic, can be mailed back to the company at no charge or brought to cooperating local recycling companies.

Hendrix says it has developed polyethylene insulators that “not only address the growing concern to minimize our environmental impact, but also as a means of minimizing costs to customers as an incentive to do so.”

Many traditional insulators are made from porcelain. Hendrix says its Cradle-to-Cradle program is possible because of the recyclability of HDPE plastic.
