Harsco Corp. announced that its Heckett MultiServ division has been awarded a new ten-year contract that will significantly expand its scope of services at SMI Steel-Alabama, a unit of Dallas-based Commercial Metals Co.
The contract calls for Heckett MultiServ to undertake a range of additional services that include liquid slag transport via mobile pot carriers, scrap management, revert scrap preparation and mill scale processing. All of the new services are expected to be mobilized and fully operational beginning in the third quarter of this year. Heckett MultiServ currently provides slag handing and metal recovery services at the Birmingham, Alabama-based EAF (electric arc furnace) mill.
SMI Steel-Alabama produces structural steel materials for use in construction, transportation, energy and fabrication applications. The mill currently produces more than 650,000 liquid steel tons annually.
