Hawaii DOH Files Notice Against Recycler

The Hawaii State Department of Health (DOH) has filed a notice of violation against Charles Lee and PRC Corp. for operating an unpermitted solid waste management facility in Kauai, Hawaii. DOH says the violations against PRC involve processing of scrap metal and obsolete vehicles.

DOH has imposed a penalty of $94,800 and has ordered Lee and PRC Corp. to cease accepting further solid waste and remove all solid waste from their property. Lee and PRC Corp. may request a hearing to contest the allegations or order.

The DOH Solid Waste Section regulates standards governing the design, construction, installation, operation and maintenance of solid waste disposal, recycling, reclamation and transfer systems. The standards are intended to prevent pollution of the drinking water supply or waters of the state; prevent air pollution; prevent the spread of disease and the creation of nuisances; protect the public health and safety; conserve natural resources; and preserve and enhance the beauty and quality of the environment.
