Hawaii's bottle recycling legislation is now in effect. Collectors of the containers will now be able to redeem the containers for the $.05 deposit that was mandated on all the containers.
The state had begun charging the deposit over the past two months.
According to published reports more than 40 recycling centers are scheduled to open through the state this month to take in the bottles.
According to the Hawaii law, consumers are required to pay a nickel deposit, along with a one cent handling fee. The five cent charge can be paid back when the consumer returns the bottle to a redemption center.
There are a total of 11 states that have some form of bottle bill in place.
